Greetings to all and welcome to our first 3 day ride of 2019. WHAT!!!!! 3 day? You said it was going to be a 4 day ride. Yes I did, and no, it isn’t. Originally at our ride meeting, it was requested to add the cabins at Alamo, Nevada as one of our night stops. That would take a minimum of 4 days to complete this trip. Unfortunately, after talking with the manager of Windmill Ridge in Alamo, they didn’t think they would be in business in 2019. The owners are going to donate the land and the cabins to the Girl Scouts. Too bad for us, very good for them. Now back to the 3 day ride. The dates of this ride will be March 29th, Friday, to March 31st, Sunday.

We will all gather on the west side of US 101 @ 166 east at 7:00am, ride brief at 7:15 and kickstands up at 7:30. We will travel east on 166 until we make a stop at Maricopa (78 miles) for a butt/gas break. Continue on the 166 to Old River Road, where we will make a turn (only one direction to turn). After we get on this said road, we will zigzag across the county until we hit Comanche Road near the town of Arvin. We will stay on Comanche north bound until we run into SR 178, were we will head east to Lake Isabella (82 miles). At Lake Isabella, we will dine at the Dam Korner Café, then gas up for our next leg of the trip.

Continuing east on the 178 until we come to SR 14, then heading north. The 14 merges with the 395 north until we stop for a butt/gas stop at Olancha.(84 miles) From Olancha, we will take SR 190 east into Death Valley. After passing Stovepipe Wells (maybe an ice cream stop), we will turn north on Scotty’s Castle Road, then east on Daylight Pass Road an stay true until we hit Beatty.(109 miles)

At Beatty, we will be staying at Stagecoach Inn Friday and Saturday nights. There # is 775-553-2419 for reservations. I blocked off 12 rooms for the price of $65/night plus tax, which came to $70.85/night. When you call and make your reservation, tell them you are with the SANTA MARIA HOG. On Saturday, there are 2 different routes, so we will discuss them to see which route we will take. Each route includes Furnace Creek, Zabriskie Point, Dantes View, Badwater, Artists Palette and Artists Drive. For lunch, we will dine at the Amagosa Café at Death Valley Junction. I did call them and yes, they are still open. They also make pizzas now.

I’ve been leading this ride for the past 18 years and have never grown tired of this beautiful, vast terrain. If you have never been to Death Valley, or are new to the chapter and have never experienced a 3 day chapter ride, you need to do yourself a favor, and join us. Please call me (Moe) at 805-266-4574 if you have any questions.

The final destination / termination point for this ride will be the Harley-Dealership in Santa Maria.

Something new and different, a day ride on a Monday!

Come join us for a new experience on your HOG. We will ride out Hwy 166 to Hwy 33 and then to Ballinger Canyon Off Road Riding Area.

To make the most of our morning and experience the beauty and solitude of the beach in the early morning hours, we will meet at the Jalama Beach Parking lot and plan to depart no later than 3:00AM

Once we arrive at Ballinger Canyon, we will enter the off-road park and have a fun "day-in-the-dirt" riding our Harleys down dirt roads, through soft sand and heavy mud. There is something for everyone out here. From rolling rhythm sections, to large dirt berms, table top jumps, and double and triple jumps.

Don't discredit how much fun you can have truly motocrossing your Harley. There is nothing like grabbing a handful of throttle and sliding your 800+ lb cruiser through a motocross course.

Due to the recent rains the ground is very soft and there are a lot of slick muddy, rutty sections, so it's a good idea to invite a passenger to ride with you two-up so that you get some weight on that rear tire for traction, because you are going to need it!

After sufficient practice we will hold super-pole style time trials to see who can pull the fastest lap. We will also hold a jump contest to see who can jump their Harley the highest and the furthest.

We will have several tow trucks at the end of the day to transport whatever is left of our bikes back to the Harley dealership which will be the termination point for this ride.

    Non-Chapter Event for Participation Points

    To Register go to: https://members.hog.com/HOG/HDMN_Rally_Details?rallyId=a1W0a00000YREAjEAP

Riding the Sierra’s HOG Tour begins in Bakersfield, CA where your journey begins. Bakersfield has an elevation of 495’ above sea level.

As you roll along scenic roads west of the Sierra Mountain range, you climb in elevation as you enjoy the sites along the winding roads. You will pass through some of the old gold rush towns from the late 1840’s. Over 750,000 pounds of gold was extracted from 1848 to 1855. Remnants of the old mines and buildings are still visible today.

Great scenery along with the gold rush history will be just a portion of the highlights of this HOG Tour. After you depart Bakersfield, nightly stops along this ride will be in Fresno, Jamestown and ending in Sacramento. Come along for the ride as we make history with another HOG riding event.

Event planning continues, check back frequently for Rally Event detail and lodging info.

The return trip to New Cuyama will be our termination point for this ride.

On Saturday, June 15th, 2019, I will be leading us on our annual summer trek up to Pine Mountain Club. We`ll meet at Pappy's Restaurant on Betteravia and have a pre-ride briefing at TBD and head out at TBD. We will take Highway 166 to New Cuyama and make a stop there to shed some clothes and use the restrooms. We will then continue east, turning onto Highway 33 and down to Ventucopa stopping at "the Place". This cool little café/bar offers a nice breakfast and lunch and caters to the motorcycle crowd on the weekends. Good food and friendly staff.

After eating, we`ll continue south on Highway 33 till we get to Lockwood Valley Road where we make a left and head on up through the Lockwood Valley to Pine Mountain Club. This road is fun to ride, having a lot of turns, twisties, and terrific scenery to keep your brain occupied! Once we get to Pine Mountain Club, we will stop for gas and maybe something to drink from the nearby store. After our stop, we`ll head out of town heading north on the Cerro Noroeste Road. This road is also a lot of fun with the same kind of cornering, twisties, and spectacular scenery as before. We will eventually hit Highway 166 again. Taking a left, we`ll go to our final stop at Patti`s favorite restroom in New Cuyama to say our goodbyes, etc.

The mileage totals are approximately 125 miles up to Pine Mountain Club and 100 miles back to Santa Maria. It`s a fun little ride and we hope you will join us!
